It Begins, or, Don't Call it a Comeback
My $20/20 week marathon training plan started today. One workout down, 80 or so to go until race day. It's hard to break the mental attitude that I should be running sub-8's and carrying on a conversation. If I ever was that fit, I am definitely not now. A loose guess on a half-mile oval has me at just under 11 minute miles. That's fine for now, I have to live with it. I'm getting BACK in shape, I have to start at the beginning.
All things considered, it was a fine 40 minutes. Slow jog, listening to a story about a guy and his girlfriend who lived on an atoll for a couple of years, "The Sex Lives of Cannibals." Dry, funny.
I politely requested that a gentleman in a vehicle kindly not continue moving forward at the stop sign as I passed in front of him. However, he was talking on his cell phone, so I understand that it's difficult to keep track of pedestrians. He's probably important or something and I applaud his ability to multitask so nearly flawlessly and told him as much, more or less.
And just to get it out of the way, my last timed 5K was 25:50 (PR 20:49). I timed a 500 in the pool last week, 7:42. So that's where I'm starting from. I have no idea where I'm at on the bike right now. Probably way, way behind you.
It's ironic (I think?), that despite my general misanthropy, my motivation pretty much completely falls apart without a team around me. Maybe I am more of a conventional, non-alien guy than I think I am. Who knew.
OH yeah, and favorite quote from our fitness center guy, "Are you working out today? Or are you running?" Good guy, I like him, but wrong.

Don't feel bad. I've been training all along and my run was at 10:31 min pace today. Stupid knee.
Are you doing the Thanksgiving half?
