Anniversary
One year ago yesterday, I went out at about 6 p.m. for my second to last training run before flying to New York for the NYC Marathon. I was in really good shape and ready to break four hours. I felt good.
Then, in full stride, I stepped on a piece of rubble on what passes for a sidewalk in my neighborhood. I turned my left foot completely underneath and sprawled on the pavement. Some hippy runner guy came up to offer assistance. Later on he gave me some kind of magic herbal lotion (no, not that kind of herbal). It didn't really help, but it was nice of him. Now, just over a year later, I am almost totally off the wagon. I did manage to do the half-distance race at the Georgia Marathon last March, and had a respectable St. Anthony's triathlon in April, but after that... almost nothing.
What a way to get knocked down. I'm 10+ pounds heavier and can't seem to get excited about training anymore. I'm swimming a couple times a week, with occasional bikes and runs thrown in just to feel like I should. Then a busy week comes around and the first thing to get cut is the training. Then I walk up the stairs at the office and call it exercise. Yay me.
I did sign up for the full-distance Georgia Marathon next year (after missing the guaranteed entry deadline for the 07 NYC Marathon, I think I am not meant to do that race). I'm going to HAVE to get motivated for running. Soon.
But then again, every time I get down about my training (or anything, really) I remember that I am an Ironman (three years ago Sunday), and then it's all better. Sort of.

Glad your ankle is better now. Maybe you just needed a break from the training? I've signed up for that race also.
