monday

When will it end? I've had this oozing/floating head/dagger in the throat/sickly exhausted crap for over a week! WTF?! Granted I feel better today, but the chunky gobs I continue spewing up keep reminding me that I'm not at my peak. It's not like there's a damn race on SuNDAY or anything!
Crap.
How much sleep, orange juice, time, teetotaling, etc. do I have to do to get over this?
Looks like I'll have to throw away any time goal at all for the half marathon. Fine. Whatever. I'll just jog through the 13 miles and smile for my adoring fans. Or walk. But you don't want to walk in an event like this, people will say "come on! You can do it!" and you won't have the interest to explain, "well I'm an ironman triathlete and was totally prepared to kick ass in a marathon last fall but then stepped on a stupid rock 3 days before the race so that took me out of commission for 8 weeks and then when I got back on it was winter and the middle of school and I had other things on my mind and then I entered this thing but then my training didn't go well (see above) and so I decided to do the half marathon but then I got sick and felt like dog shit for nine days so that made me even slower and it's none of your damn business anyway why aren't YOU out here jerk..." etc.
(contrary to above, I do love my fans and will tell you all the very long very boring story, along with any number of rationalizations for my failing training program, but hey, I'm getting to be pretty good at yoga. do they have competitions in that?)
School's out now. Spring in Atlanta is beautiful. I wish I was running. But I'd rather suck on a Halls go take a nap on the couch.

Sorry you are feeling crappy. It sucks. Believe me I know - I read an article that said kids average between 8-10 colds per year. I have two kids. We do nothing but have cruddy colds all winter, and if I'm not sick, that still doesn't mean that I'm not stranded at home with someone else who is sick. GRRR.

Don't sweat the ING, though. Just finish it and enjoy the weather. Don't beat yourself up - where's the fun in that?

Go to the dr and get script for some steriod nasal spray. It will help. If you don't want to go to the dr try Afrin. Also. lots and lots of water. You might have allergies and could try Claritin. That helps Carmella and it doesn't make you drowsy.

Claritin seems to be the key over here. I'm gradually spitting less and less - still hocking it up and spitting but far less. And, by the way, it's much cheaper at the Sam's club.

I thought I'd set the Garmin for 9 min/mile and hope for the best. I don't know your time goal, but if that fits for you - we can wave at your fans together.

Oh, and teetotalling is for the birds. Drink more and go to bed early.

thanks for the recommendations. as moms I think you are all at least as qualified as any doctor in diagnosing and treating common illnesses (where do you keep the secrets of moms book? and how does a male get one?)
Steph, thanks for the offer, though I don't expect to put in 9s now. I'll probably be closer to 10s, but I'll be smiling.
