this is the end

Today is my last day in my little gray hexicle (like a cubicle except with six sides) on the first floor. Tomorrow I'll move to a little gray hexicle on the fifth floor. Contrary to previous news, I will not in fact be getting an office with a door.
"In the future" there will be more web producers and they want us all to sit together. So there was an attempt to put me literally in the middle of a large open area in between the offices. Everyone else on the floor has an office, except for me. Even the student workers.
I couldn't do it. It's degrading enough to be the only person on that floor without an office. The further humiliation of being on display was too much. I was able to get a spot in the corner by the stairs. Still a hexicle, but it does have an outside window, so that's progress. At least I won't be the receptionist.
What would YOU be willing to live with for a five percent raise? Oh, and a greater sense of fulfillment too.
Now I'm backing up my stuff, clearing my browser cache, histories, and passwords (not that I've been goofing off at work ... say, by blogging for instance ... I just want to leave a clean work area for the next user).
It's 70 degrees and sunny here now. Yesterday I rode my bike to work for the first time since November. It was awesome. Awesome. Very nice to be warm enough, sunny enough, and to get out of my little dinosaur-fume powered metal box. I even got to stop at our neighborhood joint for some snacks and a beer. Life is sweet like that.
After this DVD finishes writing, I am outta here. Enough of e-learning. Nothing left to do. Tomorrow I'll be a web producer again. Nice.
